A walk through Sisland to Stubbs Green

The walk starts from Church plain, in the centre of Loddon, where car parking is available (first two hours free) and a bus service stops nearby.
(For timetable information - http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/suffolk_norfolk/).

The walk covers approximately 8.5km (about 5 miles). Ordnance Survey Landranger Sheet 134 (Norwich and The Broads) or Explorer sheet OL40 (The Broads) cover this area.

From Church Plain turn right past The Swan then left into George Lane (TM 361988) and follow until you reach the main road (A146) which you cross to follow a short section of old road.
Briefly join the Mundham Road before turning right to follow the path across a field. Turn right as you join the road and continue to the corner at Jubilee Cottages.

You have the option here of making a detour by taking the track to the right to visit Sisland Carr, returning to the junction to continue your walk.

Continue along the road past Lodge Farm (note Victorian letterbox) to the junction. Turn right and follow the road to Sisland Church.

Sisland Church – a slightly unusual design for a Norfolk church.

The original medieval building was largely destroyed by a violent and prolonged storm in 1760 and what you see today is the replacement, built at that time.

The church has produced a fascinating guide to its history and that of the parish which can be bought for a small sum at the church.

Continue along the road for a short distance then turn left onto a footpath and follow the footpath signs (rather faded) across the fields to reach Mundham Lane.

Mundham and Seething churchtowers

At this point look straight ahead and you may be able to see (depending on the time of year) the two towers of Mundham and Seething churches almost coincident with each other.

Turn left and head south along the road for about 400 metres before turning left again onto a footpath running along a field boundary which runs onto St Johns Lane.

At the end of the lane turn right and right again onto Mundham Road.
After some 200 metres, opposite a pair of cottages, turn left at the footpath sign into the field, bearing left and following the field boundary until you reach the site of an old pit.

Cross the field at this point following the route through the crops, then through the paddock to join Ingloss Lane.
Turn right onto the lane and almost immediately left onto a track.

Follow the track and path towards Bush Farm turning through the hedge and over a small ditch and follow the path across the field to join a lane onto which you bear left heading towards Stubbs Green.

Cross the green to reach Stubbs Green Lane then turn left to follow the road towards Lodge Farm.

At the point where the road bears right towards Lodge Farm continue straight ahead onto a gravel track. Follow this as it curves to the right then bear right onto the footpath and continue until you reach the main A146.

Cross here and follow the path into the estate walking down Alfric Close directly in front of you and following the path as it leads through the estate, past Hobart High School and into Kittens Lane. Turn right here to Farthing Green then left to follow High Street back to the car park.
